I.  INTRODUCTION
************************

PURPOSE OF THIS README FILE

This ReadMe file provides specific installation instructions and 
other information you should know before you install and use the
printing system. Installation instructions are provided for the 
Windows 3.1x files listed below:

Windows 3.1x Drivers
Windows 3.1x Font Installer

This file provides specific installation, compatibility, and 
troubleshooting information. For additional information about the 
printer features and driver features, refer to the online help 
included with each software component and the printer use guide.

The following HP printer models are supported: 
- HP LaserJet 4100 printer (C8049A)
- HP LaserJet 4100n printer (C8050A) 
- HP LaserJet 4100tn additional tray printer (C8051A) 
- HP LaserJet 4100dtn duplex printer (C8052A) 
- HP LaserJet 4100mfp (C9148A) 
- HP LaserJet 4101mfp (C9149A) 

REQUIRED SOFTWARE

The Windows 3.1x printing system software is required to operate 
the HP LaserJet 4100 Series product. 

The CD-ROM includes the following software for Windows 3.1x:

HP LaserJet 8100 Series PCL 5e
HP LaserJet 8100 Series PCL 6
HP LaserJet 4100 PS 600

II.  INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
*******************************************

WINDOWS 3.1x

Driver 

1    Close all programs. Turn off virus checkers and terminate 
     stay resident (TSR) programs. After installation, these 
     programs can be turned back on.
2    Go to Main in the Program Manager and select Control Panel.
3    Select Printers.
4    Under Printer, choose Add.
5    Under the list of printers, choose Unlisted and click Install.
6    Browse to the driver location using one of the options below:

	CD-ROM option:
	Browse to the appropriate <CD-ROM Drive>:\<Language>\
	Drivers\Win3.x directory for your operating system and 
	language.

	Internet download option:
	Browse to the <CD-ROM Drive>:\<Language>\Drivers\Win3.x 
	folder where the Web files were downloaded and 
	decompressed.

7    Select the appropriate printer and click OK.
8    Follow the remaining instructions to complete the printer 
     installation.


Windows 3.1x Font Installer

1    Close all programs. Turn off virus checkers and terminate 
	stay resident (TSR) programs. After installation, these 
	programs can be turned back on.
2    Open File Manager.
3    Browse to the <CD-ROM Drive>:\<Language>\Fontinst\Win3x\
	fontin31.exe file. 
4    Single-click on the fontin31.exe file and then press 
	Enter, or double-click the fontin31.exe file to run 
	the font installer program.
